THE TPHG 5.7 (Ranger II)
As mentioned in the page "What's next",
I do want every single new model to be DHV certified... I'm thinking about one to be very light (hopefuly less than 15kg), easy to set up or pack in less than 20 minutes and packed into a bag less than 4 meters (~13ft) long, the main goal is to be able to travel with you on an airplane for free (no extra fees) and this means less than 23kg (with the harness) and less than 1.8m long. The tphg 5.7, will certainely fit this definition.
To do so, I took the original RANGER model from Bernd SCHMIDTLER (thank's to Adi in Munich) and because the RANGER was one of the first DHV certified hang glider, the idea is to use the same sail shape but on a new frame. The result is that the new sail, which is much lighter than the original, fits on the original frame.
Bernd SCHMIDTLER's hang glider has a very interresting detail for packaging. The battles are straigt ! The RANGER was not the first "modern shape" (not Rogallo's one) hang glider with straigt battles, others were made but the hang glider it self couldn't be packed into a tiny bag.
Then, I had to fin a smart way to pack long battles. Because there is only two size of battles (1.5m and 2.0m), I decided to make only 1.5m battles and some extentions for the 2.0m ones. Today, in 2025, we can not take the first piece of something to make a battle. it has to be reproductible, light and affordable. So, as in the past, those are made in wood.
